The short answer
Open the three-dot menu (…) on the post, profile, comment, message or story, choose Report and pick a reason. Reports are anonymous, and the most serious ones are reviewed first.
Report something
- 01Find the three dots (…) on what you want to report: on a post, next to the name on a profile, on a comment, or at the top of a story.
- 02Choose Report.
- 03Pick the reason that fits best. If none does, choose Other and describe the issue.
- 04Choose Submit Report.
In a conversation, press and hold a message (or use its … menu on a computer) and choose Report. To report the person, open the menu at the top of the conversation and choose Report user.
Choose the right reason
The reasons are Underage content, Non-consensual content, Illegal activity, Harassment or bullying, Spam or scam, Impersonation, Copyright violation and Other.
- If anything suggests someone is under 18, report it right away with Underage content. These reports are prioritized.
- Don’t download, save or share content you think shows a minor, even to report it. The report is enough.
- An intimate image of you shared without your consent? Use our removal request form instead.
- Someone posted your work? File a copyright takedown notice.
What happens next
A member of our moderation team reviews every report. Under our Complaints Policy, complaints are reviewed and resolved within five business days. The person you report isn’t told who reported them.
If you’ve already reported something, we’ll tell you instead of filing it twice. If you send a lot of reports in a short time, we’ll ask you to wait a while. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
