How do I appeal a decision?

Updated

The short answer

Go to Settings › Appeals, choose the decision and tell us why it should be reversed. You have 30 days, and you can appeal each decision once.

On this page
  1. Submit an appeal
  2. What happens next
  3. Other kinds of decisions

Submit an appeal

  1. 01Open Settings and, under Appeals, choose View & Submit Appeals. Or choose Appeal this decision on the notification in Activity.
  2. 02Under Actions, choose the decision you want to appeal.
  3. 03Explain why you think it should be reversed. Be specific, and include any context the moderator may not have had.
  4. 04Choose Submit Appeal.

You can appeal warnings, suspensions, bans and removed or rejected content within 30 days of the decision. You can appeal each decision only once, so include everything the first time.

What happens next

  • Where possible, a moderator who didn’t make the original decision reviews your appeal.
  • You can follow it under Appeal History, where it shows as Pending Review, Under Review, Upheld, Overturned or Modified.
  • Overturned means we reversed the decision, Modified means we changed it, and Upheld means it stands.
  • We send you a notification in Activity when it’s decided.

Other kinds of decisions

  • Content removed after a copyright notice: file a counter-notice.
  • A complaint you made: reply to our decision or email [email protected], and we’ll look at it again.
  • Content you appear in: email [email protected]. If you tell us your consent isn’t valid under the law and we disagree, an independent, neutral third party resolves it at our expense.

Our Complaints Policy explains each of these in full.
