The short answer
A story is a photo or video that disappears 24 hours after you share it. Share one from your profile, or from the composer when you make a post.
Share a story
- 01Go to your profile and tap the + on your profile photo.
- 02Choose Tap to select media, or Choose from Vault.
- 03Add a caption if you like, then tap Share.
On your phone you can also share straight from the composer: pick a photo or video in Create, then tap Your Story.
What you can share
- Images in JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, and videos in MP4, MOV or WebM.
- Files up to 100MB.
- You need to complete ID verification first, just as you do for posts.
Who sees it, and for how long
- Your story shows up for people who follow you.
- Stories are checked before other people can see them, just like posts.
- Each story disappears 24 hours after you share it.
- Open your own story to see who has viewed it. To remove it sooner, open the story options and choose Delete Story.
